FAQ

Those are questions that I have everyday:

Do you offer structured or non-structured classes?

I like to say that we offer unstructured activities for kids and structured activity for parents.  Kids seem to do better and learn faster with the non-structured activities.  Parents prefer to have a schedule to follow and they like to have the “classes” setting.  That’s why we do both.

With the business growing, what is your plan to manage the number of members?

Right now we are in a “tune up” mode.  We see how it goes and we will add more tutors and activities in pick hours as needed.

As a parent, what would you prefer me to do in the center?

Either relax in the sitting area or join the activity.  We ask parent not to translate.  If you want to learn the language, it’s the best way to do it.  However, we ask parents to help for Arts and some Sciences activities.

What’s your curriculum?

Our curriculum is based on age and interest.  We believe that if we offer activities that kids like, they will learn faster.  We ask parents what their kids really like.  It can be airplanes, princesses, video games, Maths, Sports, etc.

Our goal is to provide a stimulating environment for children so they can learn school subjects (maths, sciences, arts, music etc.) in a foreign language.

A comprehensive Handbook is on its way.  This is a step by step explanation of language acquisition for parents.  Coming soon!

My child doesn’t repeat the words, is he learning?

There are several ways for a child to demonstrate his knowledge.  Some will repeat right away but others (I would say the majority) will “absorb” the new language as a sponge and will eventually answer back without prompting. As a tutor, that’s what we like the most.

Will you offer a ‘’Mothers Day Out’’ service?

Well, I don’t think so.  I know it may be good money but I really don’t think it will offer the best conditions for the kids to learn.  We have a drop off time on Wednesdays morning and we are too busy managing tantrums, bathroom and snack time.  Even with a ratio of 5:1, the kids don’t learn as much as we would like. Offering services that don’t comply with our mission is not in the best interest of the Center.

We started at New Brain in a Box last week and my six year old boy loves it! He is learning new words and having fun. Julie is a wonderful caring teacher. What I like best is that she speaks no English to him while we are there and he is really picking up the French! I love the relaxed atmosphere and the fact that it is not a drop off center as this gives the teacher time to teach and not change diapers and do the disciplining of the children. I like how Julie set up a homey little space for the parents to hang out and read or do a craft while the kids learn. I have also tagged along with her while my son is learning and have learned a couple new words! Merci, Julie!!!
